A Creative Slump

I’ve been in a little bit of a creative slump.  Why is it that I’m starting to spend more time on Pinterest and other artist’s blogs than I spend on my own creating?  Throw in the “Words With Friends” game that I play with 6 people, and way too much of my time is being sucked away from the time I could be using toward my own art, crafts, photography, and decorating.  Is this a problem that other artists and crafters are experiencing?

Cutting them out of my life completely isn’t an option, especially the blogs I follow!  Art & crafting blogs, and Pinterest are so inspiring to me…I think it’s the motivation that I struggle with.  My blog has helped get me motivated, but I know that I could be doing much more with that too.  My brain is filled with ideas for tutorials, decorating tips, and creative projects that I want to share.  To say that I don’t have time would be a lie…I have the time, but I’m not taking the time.

I am going to start working on this!  If anyone has any suggestions for me, I would welcome them.
Thank you dear readers, for letting me vent my frustration!
Until next time…

Create in me a clean heart, O God.  Renew a right spirit within me.    Psalm 51:10

Jane

  1. I have a post started about this same time. Claiming I don't have time when I know I am just choosing to do different things with my time. During Christmas I was shutting down my computer after lunch on Wednesdays while my son was at school and not using it again until after he got home. It was very freeing. I need to start trying that again.

    1. Thank you for the encouragement Lindy! I can see that scheduling my time on the computer would really help me. It's just so easy to let the distractions rob us of our creative time!

  2. I think lindy has a great idea. Shutting down tour computer at a certain point. same with your phone. Leave it in another room and don't go back to it until at night. Maybe also set little goals for yourself. Like, today I'm going to try one project on the Silouette machine. I'm sure if you want to bad enough, you'll start making the time. Just taking away the computer could really help. Pinterest will always be there. So no need to check everyday, right? :)

You can do this mama! Just take a first step and keep going.

    1. You are sooo right Mary! I don't need to check my Pinterest and blog status every time I walk by my computer. Setting goals is a really good idea!

  3. You did a great job on the Spring theme banner and I know it took a lot of time (I was there). Don't be too hard on yourself. You are always creating, it is in your DNA. I am cutting back on my non-productive tablet/computer/smartphone time. I should spend more time reading the Bible than playing Angry Birds!

  4. You have done a beautiful job on your new header - truly lovely.

My tip is (and I do struggle with exactly the same things. I have great ideas for setting up a business on my Vintage Folk Painter site, but time seems to fritter away. I am resolved to make an effort - we can encourage each other.)

    Lists.
A simple to do list. Write one in the morning, but dont make it too complicated. Just put the basic, simple things on there, like, make bed, hang out washing, or whatever.

Then add in something that you would like to accomplish that day.
As you do each task, cross it off the list.

I find this works really well for me, as the goal becomes to cross everything off the list.

Now, if you dont finish everything on the list that day (and remember, dont make it too complicated, it has to be achievable), the next morning you reevaluate it and decide if you want to move the undone items onto the day's list.

    cheers
    Fi

    1. Thank you Fi...I used to make lists every day, and got out of the habit. I like your idea to put a "what I want to accomplish today" on the list. I appreciate your input...yes, let's encourage each other!

  5. I have problems with this too. Sometimes Pinterest does help inspire you though ;)
I have started shutting down the computer too and spending time doing housework and just playing with Maddie. Sometimes I feel guilty for not getting to my emails fast enough or commenting on other blog friends blogs but you eventually get over that :)
Plus there's all the share apps that also show them you. Ale and read it too!!
Good luck and I hope you get out of your slump soon!
